Dave Adams was a leader and a teacher, a man of great joy and great journalistic ethics and instincts. I remember a trip to San Francisco with Dave and several IDS staffers for a newspaper conference…Dave not only helped us represent the paper and the University well at this event, he helped us enjoy the city and each other’s company even more. His door was always open, he was always there to listen and to offer good advice. Dave challenged IDS staff members to put out a great paper every day, to exercise the freedom of the press in a responsible manner, and to treat everyone in the IU community with respect.

Dave had a special fondness for “The Wizard of Oz,” I think he recognized the power of the simple truth of that story…he encouraged us to go out and face the world, but also to value the blessings of home. Dave, dear friend, rest in peace. We will see you “Over the Rainbow.”
