With a first and a second place finish in the night's only two events, IU women's swim and dive leads the competition after one day at the Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis.

The Hoosiers have 74 points, just ahead of Minnesota's 72. The Gophers are the defending tournament champions. Wisconsin is currently in third place with 60 points and Ohio State and Penn State are tied for fourth with 58.

Sophomore Brooklynn Snodgrass and seniors Bronwyn Pasloski and Lindsay Vrooman came into the tournament unrested, but their performance was not hindered.

In the opening 200-yard medley relay event, Snodgrass, Pasloski, freshman Gia Dalesandro and senior Kait Flederbach took first in a school-record time of 1:36.69. This is IU's first win in the event since 2008.

IU then placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Haley Lips, junior Cynthia Pammett, Vrooman and Snodgrass finished in 7:03.08, the fifth-fastest time in school history.

Tomorrow's events include the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and 1-meter diving. Prelims begin at 12 pm ET.
