Former IU catcher Josh Phegley has been selected to play in the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game, the athletic department has announced in a press release.

Phegley, a 2009 first round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox, is hitting .314 with 13 home runs, 17 doubles and 36 RBI through 55 games with the Sox' Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights. He represented the Knights at the Triple-A All-Star Game in 2012.

Phegley played three seasons (2007-09) for IU Coach Tracy Smith before declaring for the draft as a junior. He hit .344 with 17 home runs, 66 RBI and an OPS of 1.089 that season.

Aside from San Francisco Giants right-handed reliever Jake Dunning, Phegley is at the highest level of professional baseball of any active former Hoosier. He is also the only one at the Triple-A level.

First pitch of the Futures Game is schedule for 2 p.m. July 14 at Citi Field in Flushing, N.Y.
