IU senior Derek Drouin can add yet another award to his already prestigious resume. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Drouin as the Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year.

Drouin is a six time Big Ten champion and this also marks the sixth time he's been named a regional field athlete of the year (three indoor, three outdoor).

The news comes a week after Drouin was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year and of the Championships following his third-place finish in the heptathlon and victory in the high jump in Geneva, Ohio on Feb. 22-23.

Drouin broke the world record for the heptathlon high jump when he cleared 2.30m (7-6.5). He then broke the Big Ten meet record in the open high jump (a record he already held) twice and finished at a height of 2.26m (7-5).

Drouin's season-best jump was a successful clearance of 2.32m (7-7.25) in the final home meet of his indoor career. That height set the Gladstein Fieldhouse record and ranks second in the NCAA this year.

Drouin was off this past weekend as he prepares for the NCAA Championship meet in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 8-9.
