Though I'm a Chicago style hot dog kind of guy, let's go with just ketchup today. Let us take a look at the efforts of the Hoosier baseballers who spent their summers aiming to perfect their craft.

As many of you know, three Hoosiers took to the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer. (Now) sophomore Kipp Schutz and junior Matt Bashore both played for the Warham Gatemen, and junior Evan Crawford aided the Cotuit Kettleers second place effort.

Crawford hit .246 over 118 at-bats in 36 games. He also tallied five doubles and led his club with 11 steals in as many attempts.

Important to note, 27 of Crawford's 30 position appearances were in the outfield. After adjusting from playing infield last season with IU, the Reynoldsburg, Ohio native made very few errors toward the end of the season, ending with seven total.

Bashore didn't throw as much for the Gatemen as he did last season as a Hoosier, but as noted by Zach and I in earlier posts, the lefty deserved the rest.

IU's ace finished last season with 82 and 2/3 innings pitched en route to being named a first team All-Big Ten member.

With the Gatemen he mostly came out of the pen, starting in only three of his seven appearances.

Bashore finished his summer with a 2-2 record and a 3.15 ERA in 20 innings of work. He tallied a rather high number of walks with nine over his 20 innings, but when balanced against 32 strikeouts it's hard to make the free passes an issue.

After a slow start to his summer in the Cape, Schutz found a rhythm at the plate and finished with a .260 batting average in 123 plate appearances.

Schutz recorded five doubles, a triple and tied for the team high with four home runs, ending with a very respectable .415 slugging percentage and a .338 on-base percentage.

Check back in soon for more updates on other Hoosiers and their summers -- after sounding off below, of course.
