Gutman, Muse continue to pick up preseason honors

Freshman goalkeeper Trey Muse saves a shot during warm-ups before IU’s match against the Butler Bulldogs Oct. 18 in Indianapolis. Muse allowed no goals during the IU Credit Union/Adidas Classic.

After earning preseason All-American honors from Top Drawer Soccer Monday, senior defender Andrew Gutman and sophomore goalkeeper Trey Muse were named College Soccer News 2018 Preseason All-Americans on Wednesday.

Gutman picked up first team honors after scoring seven goals to go with four assists. He also had three game-winning goals in 2017. Gutman was a part of the backline last season that led the NCAA with 18 shutouts and seven goals allowed.

Muse was named to the second team after a stellar freshman campaign. He was one of the main reasons the IU defense was so successful due to his .903 save percentage and 18 shutouts.

Muse also had a scoreless streak of 966:28 minutes last season, which ranks fourth in NCAA history.

There were six other All-Americans named on the list that IU will take on this upcoming season. The Hoosiers will start the season on the road this weekend against No. 5 Wake Forest Friday and No. 3 North Carolina Sunday.
