COLUMN: Velvet is the trend to rock this summer

Entfashioncolumn052318

Among the hottest trends of 2018, from a variation of '90s nostalgia, the color ultra-violet, plastic shoes and denim on denim, is the classy new trend of velvet. Velvet is back and it's hotter than ever before.

From the soft satiny touch velvet brings, along with the expensive look it embodies, this trend is no huge surprise to fashion followers.

Gigi Hagid and the Kardashian clan are just a few examples of the latest celebrities to rock the velvet look. Today you can find velvet in endless variations. There are dresses, pants, shirts, jackets, shoes and even hair scrunchies that come in beautiful velvet options.

In the fall 2017, fashion week models wore velvet on the runway in rich jewel tones such as magenta and emerald green. These looks were unforgettable, and each garment carried a simple elegance.

The winter of 2017 brought out velvet in the form of fancy dresses and jumpsuits. These fashion staples are the perfect choice to appear stylish for holiday gatherings, parties and celebrations.

Once spring had sprung velvet transitioned into bodycon skirts and lace-up tops. While the velvet trend is much easier to sport in the cooler months of winter and fall, it is still possible to rock the trend this summer.

A velvet romper is a seamless and comfortable way to bring velvet into the hot summer sun. Another summer outfit idea is pairing a solid color velvet T-shirt or tank top with a pair of shorts. I suggest tucking the shirt in for a more polished look.

If you are looking to show off some skin, try a crop-top. Velvet crop-tops are an easy way to give off a casual vibe. If you are seeking a slightly dressier look, try styling a colorful short velvet skirt with a black blouse for an afternoon out with friends. Play up your velvet clothing by mixing it with more vibrant colors.

For a night out and about, why not rock velvet head to toe? You can wear a velvet dress and velvet booties. Velvet will blow your mind away with its silky expensive look.

Simple solid colors are no longer the only way to wear velvet. The fabric now comes in interesting patterns such as floral print. These different prints help to expand options for those who want a more a daring look.

To rock patterned velvet fabric without overdoing it, try pairing a printed velvet item such as pants with another solid color piece such as a blazer. Complete the overall style with a solid color belt. This look is put together and fun.

Practice styling patterns and colors that will make velvet look your own. The most important thing is to feel good about what you wear. With trial and error of different fashion choices, you will be able to come up with your go-to outfits in no time.

Whether you are going for an all velvet look or just throwing on a pair of velvet shoes, velvet is the trend of 2018 you will not want to miss.
