IU student wins car in Assembly Hall

Sports Filler

IU freshman Owen Kleppe hit a half-court shot, a 3-pointer, then another half-court shot at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to win a car last Sunday.

Kleppe was participating in Sigma Alpha Mu’s fourth annual “Ball at the Hall 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament." It is a charity event which has raised almost $30,000 by 40 different teams for two nonprofit charities, the Laura S. Bauer Foundation for Sudden Loss and The Elyse Marcus Legacy Foundation.

Kleppe won a Fiat 124 Spider lease from Ray Skillman Fiat in New Whiteland, Indiana.

Kleppe, wearing a University of Maryland, Baltimore County shirt, drained all three shots while being watched by other participants and some members of the IU men’s basketball team.

The freshman sank his first half-court shot without touching the rim. His second shot, a 3-pointer from the top of the 3-point arc, hit nothing but net.

His third and final shot was from half court. It briefly touched the backboard and rim before falling down in the basket to cheers from the crowd.
