Playboi Carti, a rapper, songwriter and model from Atlanta, Georgia, will headline the Little 500 Concert on April 20. Supporting acts will be released in the coming weeks.

The annual concert is organized to celebrate Little 500 bike race winners and will take place at 8 p.m. April 20 at the IU Auditorium.

Tickets for the concert start at $39 for IU students and $49 for the general public and go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Headliner Playboi Carti, or Jordan Terrell Carter, is often called a mumble rap artist, which refers to a subgenre of trap music characterized by lyrics that are difficult to understand.

Playboi Carti is known for his song “Magnolia,” which hit the Number 12 spot on the Billboard 200 charts. He is also the rapper behind “Woke Up Like This,” which featured Philadelphia-based hip hop artist Lil Uzi Vert.

“An evening of electrifying performances awaits when Carti and friends arrive in Bloomington,” according to an IU Auditorium press release.

The Atlanta-born, 21-year-old artist released his debut mixtape “Playboi Carti” on April 14, 2017.

His most recent song “Bankroll” also featured Lil Uzi Vert and was released in Februrary, fueling rumors that the two would collaborate on a full mixtape.

Carter has been rapping since an early age under many different names beyond "Playboi Carti," according to the release. He started out with underground Atlanta label Awful Records and has gone on to tour the country with rappers Gucci Mane and Dreezy.

When not touring, he models for major brands, including Yeezy Season Five. His style is inspired by rapper, singer and songwriter Kanye West, as well as rapper ASAP Rocky, according to the press release.

Union Board Director of Music Lexi Summers said in the release that Playboi Carti is a pop culture icon, as well as a versatile and artistic performer.

“With Playboi’s reputation as both a musician and model, he’s got the ability to influence culture and society in a way that many other artists could never achieve," Summers said in the release. "We are very fortunate to catch this artist in his prime, as he’s currently in the midst of releasing new music and truly solidifying his image."
