Wrestling loses opening Big Ten Conference dual meet

Sophomore Devin Skatzka takes down his opponent with a pin early in the match in the 174-pound category during the Hoosier Duals at the University Gym on Dec. 2. Skatzka finished in eighth place in the 174 lb. division at last week's 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.

IU wrestling began Big Ten Conference play Sunday against No. 2 Ohio State in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The Hoosiers won three bouts in the dual meet but were handily defeated by the Buckeyes 26-9.

The three wins for IU were earned by juniors Elijah Oliver and Fletcher Miller, and sophomore Devin Skatzka. All three victories came by decision for the Hoosiers.

Oliver's victory in the 125-lb. category gave IU a 3-0 lead to begin the meet. It was the 60th win of Oliver's career.

However, Ohio State then won five straight matches to open up an 18-3 lead.

Skatzka and Miller's wins came during the final four bouts of the meet.

IU is now 6-2 overall this season, and 0-1 in conference play.

The Hoosiers will return to action Dec. 17 at No. 1 Penn State in University Park, Pennsylvania.
