IU swimming adds assistant coach

IUSwimandDive

Over Labor Day weekend, IU swimming and diving announced the addition of a new assistant coach, Caitlin Hamilton. She will begin her career at IU as the assistant swimming coach for the men’s and women’s teams.

"I am honored and excited to become a part of the Indiana University family," Hamilton said in an IU Athletics press release. "I would like to thank Coach Looze, the rest of the staff and the administration for the opportunity to join the program at such an exciting time. I have always admired the commitment to excellence that Indiana Swimming and Diving exemplifies at both the collegiate and international level. It is a great time to be a Hoosier."

Hamilton has Big Ten and Indiana roots as she graduated from Purdue in 2014 after having been named an All-American during the 2009-10 season in the 1,650-yard freestyle. During her career, she was a two-time Olympic Trials qualifier in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle events.

"Caitlin Hamilton brings a wealth of Big Ten experience to our program," IU Coach Ray Looze said in the release. "In just a few short years, she has established herself and an outstanding deck coach who specializes in technique, motivation, and leadership development."

Hamilton was previously an undergraduate assistant coach at Purdue and helped lead the Boilermakers to a seventh-place finish at the Big Ten Championships.

After her graduation from Purdue, Hamilton worked as an assistant coach at the University of Wyoming, where she coached the mid-distance, distance and individual medley swimmers. Wyoming finished the season in third place in the Western Athletic Conference Championships, with one NCAA qualifier and four conference champions.

Hamilton’s most recent stop was at IU-Purdue University Indianapolis, where she helped recruit the highest-ranked class in the university's history. She served as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s team as well as the recruiting coordinator for the women’s team.

She spent two years with the Jaguars in Indianapolis, where she accumulated two College Swimming Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) All-American team honors, 37 team records and six NCAA B-time achievements.

Prior to being named the assistant coach, Hamilton graduated with a master's in kinesiology from IU in the spring of 2017.
