Faculty and student groups to hold events, discuss issues on 9/11

Monday marks 16 years since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. 

Events all around campus will be remembering the day, both run by faculty and students.

Ivy Tech remembers 9/11:

Ivy Tech Community College's Bloomington campus will remember Sept. 11 at a remembrance event Monday morning at 9 a.m. The event will include the City of Bloomington and Bloomington Metropolitan Fire Fighters Union Local 586. The public is invited to attend. 

Afghanistan and the "War on Terror": A Retrospective Appraisal

Professor William Maley, a professor of diplomacy at the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, will speak with students on the current situation in Afghanistan and Iraq, 16 years after the attacks. This event is scheduled to take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the Global International Studies Building auditorium, Room 0001.

UndocuHoosiers Bloomington holds a "Die-In": 

People will gather around the Woodburn Clock area on campus to have a "die-in," where those participating will lie on the ground with a statement written taped to themselves about bringing awareness to immigrant oppression, according to UndocuHoosiers Bloomington's Facebook page. This event is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 11.

Refugees and the Responsibility to Protect: 

Professor William Maley will speak again, this time on the refugee situations in the Middle East. This is scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, in the GISB 1118.
