The Hoosiers will take a trip to Italy this summer.

IU announced Wednesday that the women’s basketball team would take a foreign tour to Italy August 2-11.

“We are so excited to give our team this opportunity to play international competition and to see a new part of the world,” IU Coach Teri Moren said in a press release. “This is a going to be a tremendous team builder for our players and staff and we are looking forward to departing in August.”

The tour begins in Rome, Italy after a flight from Indianapolis on August 2. The Hoosiers will visit Rome, Vatican City, Florence, Pisa and Venice on the trip. They will play three games against Italian opponents and fly back to the United States on August 11.

Per NCAA rules, a team is allowed one foreign trip every four years. IU has been to Italy in 2009, which was the program’s only foreign trip in its history. The Hoosiers are allowed to have 10 practice days leading up to the trip.

Last season, the Hoosiers had a record-breaking year, winning a single-season record 23 victories and advancing to the NIT Quarterfinals. The Hoosiers will return seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill and welcome seven newcomers to the roster, including five freshman.
