Teens arrested after fleeing police on scooter

Region Filler

Two 15-year-old boys were arrested early Friday morning after they fled from an officer who stopped them while they rode a motorized scooter.

The teen who drove the yellow scooter is charged with one count of resisting an officer with a vehicle and another count of resisting for a foot chase that followed. The passenger is charged with one count of resisting an officer.

Police are investigating whether the scooter, which the boys did not own, was stolen, Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams said. If it was, the boys could face additional theft charges.

An officer stopped the boys at about 4:30 a.m. for driving the scooter on the B-Line trail, Kellams said. The teens fled, first on the scooter and then on foot, before being eventually apprehended.

They were referred to juvenile probation.
