Little 500 Concert canceled

The Union Board announced the cancellation of its Little 500 Concert, which was scheduled to be headlined by Jeremih and iLoveMakonnen, in a Wednesday press release and cited “unforeseen circumstances.”

"We made a decision that we felt was responsible given all the things we had to take into consideration and what was best for the student body," Josh Thomas, Union Board president, said.

Thomas said to his knowledge this is the first time at least in recent history that such an event was canceled, but the experience has informed the board on changes to strategy in planning future Little 500 concerts.

In the current system, the full board convenes to decide on artists who will perform.

"We wanted to make a responsible decision on our end and one that would be in the best interests of students," Thomas said. "Moving forward, in terms of future concerts, we want to try to get more student input into the artists that we bring and all those different considerations."

The concert was slated to be at 9 p.m. April 20 at the IU Auditorium as a kickoff to Little 500 race weekend. Tickets cost between $48.50 and $68.50 for students and will be refunded automatically.

In a Twitter poll, the IDS found that less than 5% of the poll's 278 respondents had purchased tickets.
