IU sophomore swimmer Lilly King was nominated for the women’s swimming and diving Honda Sport Award on Thursday.

The Honda Sport Award is presented annually by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards to honor the top female athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. The winner of the award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Women Athlete of the Year.

King most recently defended her NCAA titles in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, which makes her the first woman in Big Ten history to do so. King’s four individual titles are also the most for any swimmer or diver in conference history.

In the 200-breast, the Evansville, Indiana, native set the American, NCAA, meet, U.S. Open, IU and pool records with a time of 2:03.18. King is now an eight-time All-American and two-time Olympic gold medalist.

The other nominees are California’s Kathleen Baker and Stanford’s Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel.

The winner will be announced next week.
