IU seeks to get back on track in Seattle

IU Coach Jeremy Wurtzman said his team is not concerned about the toll that travel may take on its upcoming trip to Seattle. In fact, he said IU is excited about the opportunity.

IU defeated Dartmouth 6-1 in New Hampshire in its last match that involved heavy travel, and this weekend it will seek to repeat a positive result.

No. 45 IU will face No. 32 Washington on Sunday in the Hoosiers’ first matchup while ranked among the top-50 this season. The Hoosiers will also seek to get their first win against a higher-ranked team.

“I think it is a whole new experience in college tennis,” Wurtzman said of the road game in the Pacific Northwest. “We really have had success, two years ago when we went to Washington, and we look to hopefully do that again.”

Although the 7-4 Hoosiers have not been able to win a match since Feb. 8, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association still ranked them among the best teams in the country Tuesday when it released the latest top 50 rankings.

Sophomore and 125th-ranked singles player Antonio Cembellin said in order to win Sunday, IU will need to keep the intensity and consistency that have been key for the Hoosiers this season.

“It is a trip we are totally looking forward to,” Wurtzman said. “We get to go to a totally different part of the country.”
