Hoosier throws no-hitter in Alabama

Sports Filler

Freshman pitcher Emily Goodin recorded five strikeouts in a no-hit performance on Friday night, as IU defeated the University of Alabama at Birmingham 7-0 at the Samford/UAB Tournament.

Goodin, who was making only her second career start, pitched seven innings and faced 23 batters in the victory. She walked one Blazer, and forced eight groundouts and eight fly outs.

The shutout by Goodin improves her record to 2-2, and marked the seventh time she appeared in a game for IU this season. She has now pitched 28.2 innings for the Hoosiers in 2017 and allowed 15 runs.

IU’s win was punctuated by a pair of home runs from senior infielder CaraMia Tsirigos and sophomore infielder Nicole Lawvere.

IU won both of its games Friday at the tournament, defeating Iowa State 4-1 earlier in the day behind a complete game from sophomore pitcher Tara Trainer.

Trainer pitched IU’s last no-hitter prior to Goodin’s, which occurred on March 12, 2016, in an 8-0 win against Evansville.

Goodin’s no-hitter is IU’s second since 2013.
