What started as a class project in the Media School will make its debut on WTIU public television next month.

“Assembly Hall: Pride of Indiana” will premiere at 8 p.m. March 7 and uncover the history, secrets and other stories of the home of IU basketball, according to a press release from WTIU.

The documentary will tell the history, original design concepts of the building and behind-the-scenes politics leading to the final product. Other little-known facts, specifically plans for an ice rink under Branch McCracken Court that were allegedly foiled by former coach Bob Knight, will be included.

Also featured are interviews with IU Athletics Director Fred Glass, Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities Chuck Crabb, former player Bobby “Slick” Leonard and more.

The film was directed and produced by Jo Throckmorton, an adjunct instructor in the Media School.

Throckmorton is a member of the Directors Guild of America and has worked throughout the country. He was also behind the four TV commercials for IU featuring Mark Cuban, Sage Steele, Ailyn Perez and Michael Uslan.
