Annual art contest opens to all ages

The annual Eco-Heroes Contest, an art competition formerly aimed at children, has opened up the contest to Bloomington residents of all ages.The contest is designed for people to transform natural curiosity into a passion for the world around them, according to a release from the city.

This year's theme is “Embracing Our Aging Planet.” Submissions can be in many art media, such as visual, performance, language and digital art, according to the release. Entrants may work in groups on their submissions.

Submissions are being taken now until 5 p.m. March 31. Any entries can be brought to the City Planning and Transportation Department office in City Hall at 401 N. Morton St. Writing or digital files can be sent to Sarah Green at greesa@bloomington.in.gov. Each submission must include an entry form located on the city’s Environmental Commission page at bloomington.in.gov.

All entries will be displayed in City Hall. The top three winners for each of the various categories will be announced by Mayor John Hamtilon at 10 a.m. April 22 at City Hall.

Last year, 190 students entered 85 submissions, according to the release.
