Indy student arrested for allegedly threatening schools

Region Filler

A 12-year-old Indianapolis student was arrested Saturday after allegedly threatening schools in his district on social media.

Perry Township Schools learned about the threats Friday night, according to a press release from the district. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and the Department of Homeland Security worked together to take the student into juvenile custody.

The student is charged with intimidation, according to an IMPD report.

“Safety is our top priority, and we will continue to be vigilant in protecting our students,” according to the release. “We are thankful to the social media users who saw the threat and notified our district.”

The press release does not expound on the nature of the threats, but Indianapolis’s CBS4 ran a screenshot of a now-deleted Instagram post making threats against the district’s schools. The post, from an account called “getblownuperry,” appears to show an explosive device. Its caption read, “Im blowing PERRY” and specifically threatened Perry Meridian Middle School and High School.

The post had two likes.

This is not the first time the district has faced a violent threat. In May 2015 a senior at Perry Meridian High School was arrested after allegedly threatening an assistant principal with a knife.
