Women's hoops picks up 3-star commit

Women's Basktball Coach Teri Moren speaks to media during the Big Ten Media Day in Chicago, Ill on Oct. 16, 2014.

IU women’s basketball picked up a verbal commitment for the class of 2017 on Tuesday when guard Keyanna Warthen tweeted her intentions to become a Hoosier.

Warthen, who lists herself at 5-foot-10 on her Twitter page, is from Pompano Beach, Florida. She plays on her high school team at Fort Lauderdale High School. She averaged 20.1 points and 10.5
rebounds per game last season as a junior,
according to MaxPreps.

ESPN.com rated Warthen as a three-star prospect and described her as “an explosively athletic combo guard.” She is the third verbal commitment of IU’s 2017 class, including Alexis Johnson from Texas and Linsey Marchese from Georgia.

Johnson and Marchese are both three-star recruits according to ESPN.com.

There are five seniors on this year’s roster, leaving IU Coach Teri Moren with plenty of spots to fill for next season.

Four of the five seniors are guards, leaving the backcourt depth a bit shallow for 2017-18.

The Hoosiers begin their 2016-17 campaign in
November, but fans can get their first look at the team during Hoosier Hysteria on Saturday, Oct. 22, in the newly-renovated Assembly Hall.
