Old SR 37 construction to cause major traffic delays for 120 days

Motorists can expect significant detours and delays around the Old State Road 37 and North Dunn Street intersections for the next 120 days.

The intersection will be “significantly improved” by late October, according to a press release from the City of Bloomington, but in order to ensure all work is completed the intersection will be closed for several months.

City of Bloomington and Monroe County construction crews are slated to begin construction Monday at the earliest.

The plans for the project include leveling the streets, reconstructing a road curve with the addition of shoulders and guard rails and continuing construction of a multi-use path and pedestrian bridge around the area.

Detour options are
limited, the press release states, since the surrounding areas are mostly rural. The decided-upon detour will use Bethel Lane to State Road 45 in an 11-mile route. Drivers should expect to add an extra 20 minutes to their drive if traveling around the construction.

Locations that could be significantly affected by the traffic detour and its consequences include Marlin Elementary School, Cascades Park and Ferguson Dog Park, according to the release.

Other roads that are currently closed in Bloomington include the intersection at East 10th Street and North Woodlawn Avenue, North Walnut Street and West 8th Street.

Several other roads are dealing with lane restrictions, including East 3rd Street, Jordan Avenue and East 7th Street.
