IU College Republicans cannot yet endorse presidential candidate

Sen. Ted Cruz waves goodbye to supporters from his motorcade after meeting Bloomington residents at Wagon Wheel Market & Deli on Monday.

IU College Republicans will not yet endorse a presidential candidate despite Ted Cruz suspending his campaign.

College Republicans chair Brian Gamache said the group cannot endorse a candidate until the party has chosen a candidate at the Republican National Convention.

Gamache said incumbent Governor Mike Pence and Senate candidate Todd Young, who is the sitting Representative for the 9th District of Indiana, will be endorsed by the group after a vote as a formality. Pence was uncontested in today's primary, and Young led his race with 66 percent of the vote to Marlin Stutzman's 34 percent with 68 percent of precincts reporting at press time.
