IU to play Austin Peay to open Maui Invitational

IU will host Austin Peay on Monday, Nov. 16 in the opening round of the Maui Invitational, according to a release posted on Austin Peay’s athletics website in June.

This fall the Hoosiers will compete in the 32nd annual Maui Invitational, which includes opening, regional and championship rounds. Chaminade, the host school, will play in the championship bracket Nov. 23-25 along with IU, Kansas, St. John’s, UCLA, UNLV, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

Austin Peay, Caly Poly, UMBC and Northern Colorado — the four teams featured in the opening and regional rounds — will each travel to at least one of the seven mainland teams that will be in the championship round. The four schools will then square off Nov. 21 and 22 at the University of Northern Colorado in the regional round of the event.

The Hoosiers have only played the Governors once before, when IU defeated Austin Peay 107-61 at Assembly Hall in December 1992. Austin Peay had an 8-22 (3-13) record last season and finished last in the West division of the Ohio Valley Conference.
