Assault aside IU Auditorium

From IDS Reports

An aggravated assault occurred on the south-side walkway of the IU Auditorium last Monday, June 22, that is still an open case.

IUPD Lt. Craig Munroe said a juvenile was hit by a rock thrown by a passerby while riding his bike and subsequently fell.

The 14-year-old male riding his bicycle had a slight abrasion to his left shoulder after the fall, Munroe said. The distance between the biker and the suspect is unknown.

“The victim stated he was unable to give a description of the male suspect,” Munroe said. “He was unsure of the race and what clothes he was wearing. He did state that he thought that the man was wearing robes... but was unsure of that.”

While the assault wasn’t reported until 7:30 p.m., the incident apparently occurred during a two hour spread between 2 to 4 p.m., according to the police report.

It was then reported that the suspect walked down Jordan Avenue and got into a black and white vehicle. The victim thought this could have been a police vehicle although he didn’t see any markings, Munroe said. Officers have failed to locate anything.

IUPD contacted the Bloomington Police Department because they are the ones that have the black and white vehicles around town, but they had no contact with anyone at that time, Munroe said.

Munroe said that because there could have been serious injury, the incident qualifies as an aggravated assault. He said there is no indication that the incident was a hate crime.
