IU drops second straight game against Iowa

For the second straight day, the Iowa pitching staff shut down the IU offense en route to beating IU 5-1 Saturday.

It’s the only the second time the Hoosiers (16-7, 1-3) have lost back-to-back games this season.

Sophomore Jake Kelzer allowed just one run on three hits in six innings pitched, but the bullpen was unable to keep the game close as it allowed four runs in the seventh inning.

Iowa (16-6, 2-0) scored its first run in the first inning.

Senior outfielder Will Nolden had two hits for IU while senior second baseman Casey Rodrigue had the team’s only RBI on a double in the eighth inning.

Junior Blake Hickman picked up the win for the Hawkeyes, pitching eight innings. He gave up one run on three hits while striking out six.

IU will try to salvage game three Sunday at 2 p.m.
