Woman reports rape in her downtown home

A 19-year-old female reported a rape to the Bloomington Police Department on Wednesday.

The reported encounter took place early Sunday morning in her residence. She was walking home from a party to her home when she encountered a male around 3:30 a.m. near Ninth and Dunn streets, which is near her residence, ?police said.

The male said he was lost, asked the female for help, followed her home and then entered her home. She did not invite him into the home, Capt. Joe Qualters said, but she did not stop him from entering.

The two sat down on her couch, and the male pulled out a small flask of alcohol, Qualters said. The female told police that she had been drinking earlier in the evening and may have had a sip of his alcohol.

The male moved closer to her on the couch and began kissing the female. She pushed him away and he attempted to have intercourse, Qualters said.

The two had sexual intercourse, Qualters said. Afterwards, she was able to push him off. Her roommate’s boyfriend entered the living room. The male gathered his belongings and left.

The female did not go to the hospital after the incident. The male is described as African-American and about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a muscular build, Qualters said.

The case is under ?investigation.
