Indiana touts economic success

The White House released an economic impact statement Thursday detailing the contributions Indiana has made to the U.S. economy in 2014, specifically with international exports.

The press release notes that exports from Indiana supported an estimated 166,000 jobs in 2013, and in 2014 the total number of exports from Indiana amounted to $35.5 billion.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Indiana’s goods exports in 2014 were led by a number of sectors including transportation equipment, chemicals and machinery.

Between 2012 and 2014, Indiana exported an average of $19.3 billion annually in goods to member countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade agreement made between the U.S. and a number of countries in the Asian Pacific region.

Between 2012 and 2014 Indiana exported an average of $8.6 billion annually to member countries in the European Union. Top exports included machinery, chemical and automotive products.
