IU defeats SMU 74-68

Junior Nick Zeisloft celebrates after making a three pointer late in IU's 74-68 victory against Southern Methodist on Thursday at Assembly Hall. Ziesloft's shot put the Hoosiers up 60-52 on the Mustangs late in the 2nd half.

IU purposely scheduled a tougher non-conference schedule this season when it decided to bring No. 22 SMU to Assembly Hall.

Thursday, the Hoosiers got the win they wanted.

IU upset No. 22 SMU 74-68 behind a shooting perfromance that saw IU make 12-of-33 3-point attempts.

Freshman guard James Blackmon Jr. had 26 points to lead IU in scoring.

SMU shot 56.9 percent from the field and outrebounded IU 40-27, but 19 turnovers cost the Mustangs.

None of the three players coming off of suspension—freshman Emmitt Holt and sophomores Stanford Robinson and Troy Williams—started for IU, but both Williams and Robinson saw playing time.
