Swimmers earn Big Ten recognition

Sophomore Brooklynn Snodgrass was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Gia Dalesandro earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday.

This is Snodgrass’ fifth career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award.

In last weekend’s meet against Purdue, Snodgrass went undefeated in her events.
She earned NCAA B-cuts, finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 53.97 seconds and the 200-yard backstroke in one minute 56.11 seconds.

Snodgrass also began and ended the meet with wins as she swam on the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

Dalesandro won all of her events on Saturday.

This is her second-consecutive week and fourth time this season being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Dalesandro completed the 200-yard butterfly in one minute 59.59 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 54.44 seconds, both NCAA B-cuts. She finished her meet with two additional wins, first in the 200-yard individual medley and then joined Snodgrass in the 200-yard medley relay.

The young swimmers have helped the women’s team to in defeating their first four opponents of the 2014 season.

The women’s swimming and diving team will compete for the third week in a row as both the men and women play host to Louisville Friday night.
