Psychiatrist appointed to oversee clinical affairs

The IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis has named a new associate vice president for university clinical affairs, Dr. Anantha Shekhar.
Shekhar, associate dean for translational research, will oversee all clinical research at the school and its partners across the state.
He will also serve on the University Clinical Affairs Cabinet and the Research and Education Subcommittee of the IU Health Board.
Shekhar is a scientist researching psychiatric disorders and treatments.
He also directs the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, a collaboration between IU, Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame that aims to advance translational research, the use of research to create safe and innovative therapies.
“I look forward to leading the efforts to make IU’s health sciences schools and its health care partners, such as IU Health and Eskanazi Health, be recognized nationally as outstanding places to conduct innovative clinical research projects efficiently,” Shekhar said.
