Man steals cell phone from woman’s hand

A 23-year-old woman reported her cell phone was stolen at the Monroe County Public Library on Nov. 20, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Joe Crider said.

She said she was with a small child in the children’s section of the library at about 10 a.m. when a man walked up to her.

The man started speaking with her and argued with her when she said she didn’t know him. The man then attempted to take a picture of her on his cell phone.

The woman, with her cell phone in her hand, put her hands up to block herself from the photo, when the man stole her cell phone.

He left the library on foot heading west on Kirkwood Avenue.

She described the man as black, in his mid-20s, with some facial hair and a slender build.
He was wearing a red IU baseball cap, a green jacket, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and carrying a black backpack.

BPD is following up on the case with video footage.
