Woman reports rape, possible drugging

The Bloomington Police Department responded to IU Health Bloomington Hospital at about 10:15 p.m. Sept. 30 in regards to a reported sexual assault, BPD Sgt. Joe Crider said.

A 21-year-old female reported that on Sept. 29, she left a downtown bar at approximately 2 a.m. to return to her apartment on the east side of town. At about 4 a.m., she awoke to a male engaging in non-consensual sex with her.

It appears the victim knows the suspect, a 22-year-old male, because the two exchanged text messages the morning of Sept. 29. She provided the name and phone number of the suspect to police.

The victim believes she may have been drugged because she said she doesn’t remember anything about the night after her first drink up until when she awoke at about 4 a.m.
The victim underwent a sexual assault examination and the case remains active.
