Woman reports 12-year-old daughter molested

The Bloomington Police Department is assisting the Department of Child Services in investigating the molestation of a 12-year-old girl.

The girl’s mother reported in a forensic interview that a 50-year-old man has molested her daughter multiple times since age 4.

The male is a family acquaintance, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Joe Crider said.

The girl’s mother told police that the girl did not come forward earlier because the man threatened to harm her if she told anyone.

The girl finally told her mother because the man is no longer involved with the family, Crider said.

There have been several instances in which both criminal deviant conduct and intercourse have occurred, Crider said.

The incidents started when the girl was between 4 and 5-years-old, several times in a residence on the east side of Bloomington.

Two more instances have taken place this year as well — one on the south side of the county and another on IU’s campus.

The investigation is ongoing, and the man is expected to be arrested once he is found, Crider said.
