Man arrested in non-fatal stabbing at bar

A Bloomington man was arrested Saturday for a non-fatal stabbing at a west Bloomington bar.

Victor Maxwell, 50, was charged with battery with a deadly weapon, a felony, and criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor, after allegedly stabbing a 47-year-old man in the leg at Highland Lounge, 1933 S. Curry Pike.

Bloomington Police responded at 11:07 a.m. Saturday and arrested Maxwell outside his apartment near Highland Lounge, said Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Dana Cole.

Cole said Maxwell was at the bar, where he had already been banned for previous altercations, when an off-duty bartender and the victim, a regular bar patron, escorted Maxwell out of the facility. Maxwell then went to the back of the bar through an outside patio area, where Cole said he got in a verbal altercation with the victim.

Maxwell then charged the victim with a folding hunting knife, Cole said, stabbing him in the back of the leg. The victim was transported to IU Health Bloomington hospital.
