Police arrest drunk motorcyclist after pursuit

A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested for resisting law enforcement and operating a motorcycle while intoxicated after a brief motorcycle pursuit with police late evening July 7, Bloomington Police Department’s Sgt. Steve Kellams said.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., police officers observed a motorcyclist run a red light at 3rd Street and State Road 37.

The driver of the motorcycle appeared to be having issues with the motorcycle as it kept stalling, police said. However, when he would eventually start it, he would take off at a high rate of speed. As the officers attempted to pull him over, he fled.

The brief pursuit ended at SR 37 and Vernal Pike when the male suspect’s motorcycle stalled again.

The officer’s attempted to take him into custody when he became combative and refused to comply with demands, police said.

He was eventually taken into custody and no police officers were injured.
The officers then noticed a strong odor of alcohol and conducted a drunk driving investigation as well.

Again, he refused to cooperate.

He was subsequently arrested for resisting law enforcement and OWI.
