Intoxicated man strikes out at spouse

Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. July 13 to the 500 Block of Basswood Drive in response to a battery, a Bloomington Police Department spokesperson said.

A 29-year-old female reported being struck in the face and held against the wall by her husband. He refused to let her leave the house.

The victim told officers on the scene that her husband was extremely intoxicated and kept getting in her face. She pushed him and he grabbed her, not allowing her to leave the room.

The victim tried to retrieve her phone from her pocket and the suspect took it away from her. The victim asked her 8-year-old daughter to call the police and the husband tried to stop her.

The daughter went next door and made the phone call.

After officers arrived, the victim was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. The suspect was located in an apartment complex next to their residence.

Officers noticed he was intoxicated and asked what happened and if he had hit the victim. The suspect responded that he probably did. The suspect’s story was jumbled due to intoxication.

The suspect was arrested for domestic battery, criminal confinement and interfering with reporting a crime, among other things.
