Birthday celebration leads to assault on Saturday

At approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the 1600 block of North Willis Drive where a woman was allegedly damaging her brother’s pickup truck with a hammer, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Ian Lovan said.

The woman was celebrating her mother’s birthday with a party inside her trailer when she and her brother started arguing about a phone call. The brother then allegedly struck the sister on the head and went outside. After the brother took off on foot, the sister allegedly responded by damaging her brother’s truck with a hammer, Lovan said.

BPD officers confirmed the woman had a slight injury to her right ear, but said she did not wish to press charges.

Later that day, police returned to the scene after a second call to find the brother attempting to re-enter the trailer, but was not allowed access as his mother did not want to see him.

After turning down the offer of an ambulance, BPD officers gave the brother a ride to IU Health for a checkup regarding concerns about his diabetic condition, Lovan said.

As of Sunday afternoon, Lovan said the brother did not wish to press charges against his sister.
