Man arrested following B-Line battery incident

Bloomington police officers arrested a suspect for his alleged involvement in the April 7 battery of a woman rollerblading on the B-Line Trail.

Scott J. Hedrick-Dwyer, 23, was arrested Monday and is booked at the Monroe County Jail facing preliminary charges for confinement and battery. Bond is set at $5,000 surety and $500 cash with a parole hold.

Hedrick-Dwyer was taken into custody after he mistakenly appeared Monday in Owen County for a court date actually scheduled for a different day, according to a press release issued by the Bloomington Police Department.

The initial incident was reported April 7 after a third-party witness reported the victim, a 23-year-old woman, had been tackled to the ground and struck in the face while rollerblading on the B-Line Trail.

According to the press release, the suspect began moving his hands toward the woman’s shorts.

The witness, who had been standing about 100 meters from the victim, began yelling at the suspect while calling 911, and the suspect fled.

The victim sustained minor cuts and bruises on her arms and legs, and she reported pain to her head. She was transported to Bloomington Hospital following the incident.

A composite sketch of the suspect was generated last week from the victim’s statements to police. Media tips aided police in identifying the suspect, according to the release. The victim also identified Hedrick-Dwyer from a photo lineup.
