Offices moving to Union Street

Front-facing service employees at the Office of the Registrar and the Office of Student Financial Assistance will merge early next semester, creating the new organization Student Central.

This will be a single place at which students can seek assistance with records, registration and financial aid.

The Office of the Registrar and the Office of Student Financial Assistance will continue to exist, Director of Student Central Roy Durnal said, but both will consist of “behind the scenes” employees who don’t usually work directly with students.

Student Central employees will move from their current offices in Franklin Hall to a new location at 408 N. Union St., near Eigenmann Hall.

“By combining the service-side operations of the offices of the Registrar and Student Financial Assistance in one convenient location on Union Street, we’re creating seamless opportunities for students to take care of business,” Durnal said in a press release issued Friday.

The announcement comes after more than a year of research, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management David Johnson said in the press release.

“We are very excited to provide what we believe will be enhanced services to students and the campus with the creation of Student Central on Union early this spring,” Johnson said.

Student Central will share the location with other organizations as well, Durnal said.

“We’ve already started some of the preparation for the new organization,” Durnal said. “Even right now, the two client services are working together in Room 100 of Franklin

Hall, so we’ve already started … and it’s working very well.”

Students can use this new organization to plan semester classes, learn about the FAFSA filing process, learn about state and federal aid options, order a transcript or diploma, and calculate GPA.

“This move is aimed at improving our core services to students, whether they’re checking on their financial aid or adding a course,” Durnal said in a press release.
