Woman attempts to burglarize smoke shop

At about 5 a.m. Sunday, a woman claiming an addiction to synthetic marijuana, commonly referred to as spice, allegedly attempted to burglarize Smoke Shop at 309 E. Winslow Road.

Cristina Stankiewicz was detained by Bloomington police and taken in for questioning after officers found her outside the shop.

Stankiewicz told officers she was attempting to steal spice from the shop, Sgt. Dana Cole said.

A gas station attendant reported hearing the sound of a window being shattered.

Stankiewicz allegedly attempted to gain access to the shop by busting a window with a metal pipe, activating the store’s alarm system, Cole said.

Although officers who responded to the call said they believe the woman acted alone, Cole said Stankiewicz mentioned two males also involved in the attempted burglary.

No other individuals were located on the scene despite Stankiewicz’s allegation, and the case was officially declared inactive as of Sunday morning, Cole said.

Stankiewicz’s preliminary charges include two counts of criminal mischief, one count of misdemeanor trespassing and burglary, a class C felony.
