Juco cornerback Tim Bennett joins IU Football

With the 2012 season opener against Indiana State exactly one month away, IU Football Head Coach Kevin Wilson is putting the final touches on his roster. Once again, he has secured a junior college transfer to strengthen his team — and, in particular — his defense.

Ellsworth Community College (Iowa) cornerback Tim Bennett has joined the IU football program, Wilson announced Wednesday. Bennett becomes the eighth junior college transfer to commit to the 2012 class and the seventh on the defensive side of the ball.

At 5-9 and 181 pounds, Bennett is eligible for the 2012 season and has three years of eligibility remaining.

In 2011, Bennett earned all-region honors at Ellsworth. He recorded 50 tackles, 35 solo, with one tack for loss and one interception.

As a senior at Northside High School (Ga.), Bennett registered 102 tackles, 67 solo, with five tackles for loss and three interceptions.

Bennett joins Ryan Thompson, Antonio Marshall and Tregg Waters as Juco transfers in the secondary. Quarterback Cameron Coffman is the only Juco transfer with a chance to play in first-year Offensive Coordinator Seth Litrell’s new scheme.
