Credit card scam discovered in Bloomington

The Indiana State Police are warning against a recently discovered credit card scam circulating the Bloomington area.

The scam involves individuals calling residents, claiming to represent cable and satellite companies, according to a press release issued by the State Police.

They proceed to offer service upgrades for the subscriber for as little as $1 provided the individual issues his or her credit card number, according to the release.

The State Police would like to remind Bloomington residents of the following:

- Never give out your social security number or birth date.
- Never give out credit, debit, checking, savings or investment information.
- Never agree to send money.
- Attempt to gather information from the caller, and alert law enforcement or the Indiana Attorney General’s Office at 800-382-5516 or in.gov/attorneygeneral/.
