Alleged suspect identified in reported rape

IU police have identified the alleged suspect in a rape case reported at 3:51 a.m. Saturday.

A freshman female student reported being raped between 11:30 a.m. Friday and 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to IU Police Department logs.

The female student and the alleged suspect were both at a fraternity party. The two engaged in consensual sexual activity and returned to his dorm room, IU Police Department Chief Keith Cash said in an email.

The alleged victim felt the continued activity in the alleged suspect’s dorm room was not consensual, Cash said in the email, while the alleged suspect thought it was.

The alleged suspect is an IU freshman who was a guest at the fraternity party, not a member of the fraternity.

Cash said IUPD is continuing the investigation.
