Hoosiers land third commit for 2013 class

After recently making it public that IU and Ohio University were his two top college choices, Aurora (Ohio) High School defensive lineman Patrick Dougherty has chosen the Hoosiers.

Zach Osterman of 247Sports.com was the first to report the news.

A 6-foot-5, 250-pound senior, Dougherty is rated by 247sports.com as a two-star prospect.

Dougherty is the Hoosiers’ first defensive commit of the 2013 recruiting class. He joins Homestead (Ind.) High Schoolwide receiver Isaac Griffith and Moeller (Ohio) High School tight end Evan Jansen.

In addition to his scholarship offers from Ohio and IU, Dougherty had compiled a lengthy list of suitors.

He garnered offers from Ball State, Boston College, Cincinnati and Miami of Ohio, among others.

Dougherty also received interest from several other Big Ten schools, including Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State.

During his junior season at Aurora, Dougherty compiled 78 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and five sacks. His Greenmen went 12-2 and advanced to the Division II state semifinals.
