Bloomington and Indianapolis police are searching for a shooting suspect after a dip in an east-side pool was interrupted by a spray of shotgun pellets Tuesday.

Carlos Nunez, 24, allegedly shot two men near the pool area of College Mall Apartments in the 2600 block of East Second Street, Lt. Bill Parker of the Bloomington Police Department said in a press release.

Police responded to the area at 6:40 p.m., but the victims and the suspect had all left the apartment complex.

A witness at the scene told police that a man had entered the pool area with a shotgun and fired once at one of the men. The man’s friend was also hit.

Later that evening, one of the victims arrived at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Manuel Arteaga-Moreno, 24, suffered injuries to his left hand and upper torso but is expected to recover, Parker said.

Police interviewed the victim at the hospital and learned that he and his friend Rigoverto Santos-Lopez, 28, were invited to the pool by Moreno’s girlfriend.

Nunez, the girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, allegedly arrived at the pool and fired at Moreno with a shotgun. Santos, who was later located at his residence, sustained an injury to his leg but did not seek treatment, Parker said.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms assisted with the search, but Nunez remains at-large as of Wednesday evening.

Parker said the suspect is described as having dark skin and is between 5’6” and 5’9”. He might be driving a Pontiac Grand Am.

Anyone with information about Nunez’s whereabouts is asked to call the BPD at 812-339-4477.
