Miller competes in 200-meter breaststroke semifinals at Olympic Trials

Junior Cody Miller placed seventh in his 200-meter breaststroke heat Thursday in Omaha, Neb. to move on to the evening semifinals, where he placed 14th.

Miller’s time of 2:13.43 in the semifinals was 3.42 seconds behind the top finisher and 1.22 away from qualifying as an alternate for the finals.

During the semifinals earlier in the day, Miller’s suit ripped in the back, and luckily, officials allowed him to change the suit. It was the second time a wardrobe malfunction occurred for Miller, as his suit ripped in the 200-yard breaststroke race in this year’s Big Ten Championships.

Miller wasn’t the only Hoosier to compete in the trials Thursday, as senior Sam Trahin (2:16.04) and Ian Boggs (2:23.88) finished 29th and 114th, respectively in the 200-meter breaststroke.

On the women’s side, incoming freshman Haley Lips was the top IU finisher in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:15.07, finishing 41st. Graduate Allysa Vavra finished just behind Lips with a time of 2:15.36, while junior Lindsay Vrooman finished 90th with a time of 2:18.53.
