How It Happened: IU uproots top-ranked team

Amid the shock of Christian Watford’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer to knock off No. 1 Kentucky, many probably didn’t care much about the box score. But here are some statistics as to how and why IU was able to pull off the upset.

>> IU shot 7-of-9 from the three-point arc in the second half.

>> The Hoosiers tied Kentucky 30-30 in rebounding.

>> IU won the offensive rebound battle, 14-10.

>> IU won the second-chance point battle, 16-10.

>> Five Hoosiers were in double figures.

>> IU shot 82 percent (14-of-17) from the line compared to Kentucky’s 59 percent (10-of-17).

>> UK freshman Anthony Davis tallied only 24 minutes and attempted just four shots.

>> UK sophomore Terrence Jones had four points, one rebound and six turnovers.

>> UK was 1-of-3 from the line in the last 19 seconds.
