Fans fill Kirkwood for celebration

IU Celebration

Inside Nick’s English Hut, fans erupted. The scoreboard read 73-72.  IU beat Kentucky.  Beers spilled, the floors and tables shook and cheers of “hoo hoo hoo Hoosiers” broke out.

The fans screamed, hugged and cheered before a cheer of “nine and O, nine and O” started.  Outside, fans ran up and down the sidewalks cheering and taking pictures.

“This is the resurgence of Indiana basketball. This is Indiana, rising like a burning phoenix out of the ashes and stomping on UK really hard. They played a great game,” said fan Zac Muller who was out celebrating Kirkwood Avenue.

Fans then filled the intersection of Kirkwood Avenue and Dunn Street and went down the street to dance in front of where music played from the windows of The Rubicon apartments. Several students jumped on top of parked vehicles to keep dancing.

“This whole time, the only thing we had to cling to was Tom Crean bringing this program out of the crater that we were in and out of the ashes and he rocked the house, man,” Muller said. “It was awesome.”
